Sex sells, until it doesn’t
Remember the Carl’s Jr. ads where they cheaply used sexy women to sell burgers? Those were the days… Now, Carl’s Jr is this:
So what happened? New marketing team? Were burgers not selling? Carl’s Jr. has been behind McDonald’s and Burger King in sales, but still ahead of Jack in the Box. So was a different ad strategy necessary?
I honestly think the age old “sex sells” mindset is true, and sex does sell, until it doesn’t. There is a time when the consumer grows and phases out the old, tired, advertising “propaganda.”
Brands must evolve. Their mascots must grow as well. Isn’t that why we don’t see the Taco Bell dog anymore? Yo quiero better ads.
